Moskowitz Brothers is a local full-service recycling business serving Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. This private family-owned business that has
been in existence since 1901 has partnered with Talbert House for many years and continues to hire ex-offenders from our reentry programs. The company believes that their high business standards, strong client relationships, and dedication to customer service have kept them in business for over 110 years.
Bob Moskowitz states:
“100% of the men that we have employed through Talbert House have come in with a positive attitude of working and getting themselves back on their feet. They are hard workers, respectful, and very thankful for their job. They want to move forward with their lives, stay clean, and enjoy the benefits of being employed. I know that employers may be reluctant to hire people with criminal records, but we are not. Most of the ex-offenders that we have hired were in prison for not paying their child support. I often wonder how they make it, even with employment, to pay their child support and support themselves and families. Of
course some of them have fallen back on that wrong track, but most of them who have worked with us have done well and are meeting their obligation to support their children. Overall, this has been a great experience for our company.”
Risks
I believe Bob Moskowitz says it best when he expressed his concern about how the ex-offender “makes it” even with employment. Somehow, many of them do when they are given a second chance. With the opportunity to work, ex-offenders become better citizens, pay their taxes and meet other financial obligations,
and end the life of crime that they formally led. And more importantly, they become role models for their children by demonstrating hard work and commitment. Giving an ex-offender a second chance benefits that individual, their family, and our community as we all work together to build a stronger economy and safer place to live.
