Talbert House’s EXCEL announces new class of nonprofit leaders

for local charitable organizations

CINCINNATI—Talbert House is pleased to announce the second class of Executive Curriculum for Emerging Leaders (EXCEL), a year-long leadership training program for nonprofit managers. EXCEL was designed by Talbert House to address the need for highly skilled leadership for the cultural and social service organizations in Greater Cincinnati.

The nonprofit sector is changing rapidly. According to Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement (PDF) at Northern Kentucky University, the number of Greater Cincinnati nonprofits is growing with one in five local nonprofits being established since 2000. A survey conducted by the Annie E. Casey Foundation (PDF) in 2004 showed 65 percent of nonprofit executive directors plan to leave their position within the next five years. Talbert House developed EXCEL to help nonprofits through leadership development, succession planning and capacity building.

Local corporations are supporting EXCEL by providing executive facilitators who will focus on how nonprofits can implement successful business strategies. Corporate executives from the following will participate as faculty: Deloitte, Fifth Third Bank, Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Kroger, Macy's Inc., Midwest Manufacturing Solutions, Michelman, Proctor and Gamble and US Bank. EXCEL is funded in part by United Way of Greater Cincinnati.
