Health and Human Services Awards Talbert House an Affordable Care Act Planning Grant
Talbert House is one of four organizations in Ohio to open future health center

Cincinnati—Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced awards totaling $318,942 to four organizations in Ohio that would like to become community health centers. These funds, made available by the Affordable Care Act, support organizations' development as a future health center.

"The Health Center Planning Grants help organizations plan to become health centers," said Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Administrator Mary K. Wakefield, Ph.D., R.N. "These awards demonstrate HRSA's commitment to expanding access to quality preventive and primary health care in high need areas across the country."

The award will provide a more comprehensive range of primary health care services and expand Talbert House services to the larger community.

“Community health centers around Hamilton County – like the Talbert House – play a vital role in helping Ohioans obtain access to primary and preventive health care services,” said Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown.  “These economic development resources help provide affordable and accessible health care to Cincinnati’s children, seniors, parents, and patients who rely on quality care in their local communities.”

Allocated through the Affordable Care Act, Health Center Planning Grants will provide $80,000 to the Talbert House, which served an estimated 26,000 people last year.

Talbert House is a community-wide nonprofit network of social services with over 36 proven programs focusing on prevention, assessment, treatment and reintegration. Each year, Talbert House helps 26,700 men, women and children across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky overcome adversity to become healthy and productive citizens through its programs in community corrections, mental health, substance abuse and welfare-to-work.
