Talbert House to honor three at Annual Luncheon
This year’s honorees are Ray Brokamp, Vice Mayor David Crowley and Miriam West

CINCINNATI—Talbert House is pleased to announce the honorees for its 43rd Annual Luncheon on Friday, September 26. Those to be honored are Ray Brokamp, Vice Mayor David Crowley and Miriam West.

Ernest Talbert Award
Ray Brokamp

Ray Brokamp is recently retired from Leadership Cincinnati, a program that helps train local leaders on the value of civic responsibility. Inspiring countless current and future leaders, Brokamp served 22 years as executive director at Leadership Cincinnati and was superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools and Walnut Hills High School principal. He is a retired lieutenant colonel of U.S. Air Force and serves on the boards of YMCA, Bridges for a Just Community, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra plus many more. He is past board president of Cincinnatus Association, INROADS, Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati and Hoxworth Blood Center.

The Ernest Talbert Award was established in 1992 to honor an individual who has acted as a benefactor or advocate for Talbert House in promoting its awareness of community corrections, mental health, substance abuse and welfare-to-work issues. Dr. Ernest Talbert (1879-1971) was Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Cincinnati. He inspired community leaders to found the agency in 1965.

Agnes Seasongood Good Government Award
The Honorable David Crowley

The Honorable David C. Crowley is vice mayor of the city of Cincinnati. As a champion of human services and senior citizens, he has had a successful career managing agencies and programs providing social services, community action and capacity building at Santa Maria Community Services, Ohio Commission on Aging, American Association of Homes for the Aging, US Peace Corps and others. He served as Special Advisor on Aging to Governor John J. Gilligan and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Northampton. He was first elected to Cincinnati City Council in November 2001 and chairs the Health, Environment and Education Committee and is a member of Finance; Economic Development; and Arts, Culture, Tourism & Marketing committees.

The Agnes Seasongood Good Government Award was established in 1992 to honor an individual in public service who has worked in the spirit of Seasongood to promote the development of community corrections, mental health, substance abuse and welfare-to-work services for the community. Agnes Seasongood (1890-1982), a prominent Cincinnati citizen, was particularly interested in the treatment and rehabilitation of prisoners, which led to her involvement with Talbert House as a board member.

Community Service Award
Miriam West

Miriam West is the retired founding director of Cincinnati Youth Collaborative after serving 24 years. Under her leadership, CYC grew to one of the largest single-site youth mentoring programs in the country with over 2,000 inner city students from Cincinnati Public Schools matched with adult mentors. Currently, she is an independent youth mentoring consultant and continues to advocate for children and their futures. West serves on the boards of CET and University of Cincinnati Alumni Association and is past board member of YWCA, Cincinnatians Active to Support Education, Cincinnati Chapter of Links, Inc. and many more.

The Community Service Award was established in 1992 to honor an individual who has gone beyond the call of duty to provide valuable leadership and outstanding services to our community.

The event will be held Friday, September 26, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, Hall of Mirrors, 35 West Fifth Street.
