Tom Berghausen receives Arthur McDonald Leadership and Service Award
Tom Berghausen served as Vice President of Talbert House for over 35 years

CINCINNATI—Tom Berghausen accepted the 2011 Arthur McDonald Leadership and Service Award on Tuesday, September 13. The award is for commitment to community-based corrections and someone who utilizes the International Community Corrections Association (ICCA) as a vehicle to support their goals.

Tom was the primary driving force behind Talbert House’s growth in community corrections and led the agency’s evidence-based practice and continuous quality improvement initiatives. He led this effort as vice president for 25 years and helped initiate many new programs during this period, growing from one residential to sixteen new programs. Tom cared about the quality the services from day one – July 16, 1975. He advocated for the best training and retention for the Talbert House staff.

Tom also served two-term regional vice terms as Regional Vice president for ICCA and was president of the Ohio Community Corrections Association .

Talbert House is a community-wide nonprofit network of social services with 36 proven programs focusing on prevention, assessment, treatment and reintegration. Each year, Talbert House helps 26,700 men, women and children across Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky overcome adversity to become healthy and productive citizens through its programs in community corrections, mental health, substance abuse and welfare-to-work.
