Talbert House receives grant from Ohio Commission on Fatherhood
Funds to support the agency’s Fatherhood Project
CINCINNATI—Talbert House recently received a $160,000 grant from the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood for the agency’s Fatherhood Project, a program that assists men in their efforts to become responsible, committed and nurturing fathers.
The grant will help Talbert House serve over 200 fathers of all ages over the next year and half. To promote active and nurturing parenting, the program provides case management, fatherhood coaching, parenting classes, employment readiness services, and legal services to remove barriers to employment and compliance with child support.
According to the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood, 25 percent of Ohio children were being raised in mothers-only households—the leading indicator of poverty. Studies have shown children enjoy far better outcomes when their fathers are constructively engaged in raising, nurturing and supporting them. When a father is present in the life of his child, that child is far more likely to experience success in life including graduating from high school, delaying sexual activity, and experiencing economic stability.
“The services the Fatherhood Project provides are designed to give these men the tools to be engaged fathers,” said Harold Howard, Talbert House Fatherhood Project manager. “Our program brings families closer together by providing a community that supports men to become the best fathers they can be.”
The Fatherhood Project has served over 1,200 fathers since its inception in 2000.
