Talbert House to honor three at Annual Luncheon
Tom Ariss, Michael Cureton and Lisa FitzGibbon to be recognized
CINCINNATI—Talbert House will be honoring three individuals who have helped the community and agency’s mission at its 2009 Annual Luncheon on Friday, September 25. Those to be honored are Retired Sheriff Tom Ariss, Lt. Colonel Michael Cureton and Lisa FitzGibbon.

The Honorable Tom Ariss recently retired as Sheriff of Warren County after 17 years of service. Previously, he worked at the Ohio State Patrol after 30 years, retiring as Assistant Commander of the Lebanon Post. A native of Akron, Ariss served in the US Naval Air Reserve and the US Army. He serves on the boards of Otterbein Lebanon, Clinton County Mental Health and Recovery Services and Warren County Republican Party. He and his wife Bonnie have been married 43 years, and they have two children and six grandchildren.
The Agnes Seasongood Good Government Award was established in 1992 to honor an individual in public service who has worked in the spirit of Seasongood to promote the development of mental health, community corrections, substance abuse and welfare-to-work services for the community. Agnes Seasongood (1890-1982), a prominent Cincinnati citizen, was particularly interested in the treatment and rehabilitation of prisoners, which led to her involvement with Talbert House as a board member.

Lieutenant Colonel Michael Cureton is one of the Assistant Police Chiefs of the Cincinnati Police Department. He is Chief Investigative Officer, overseeing the Investigations Bureau. Throughout his 32-year career at CPD, he has served in a variety of assignments, including serving as commander of District Two and overseeing the development the “Safe Pathways” school safety program and the operational strategy for Community Problem Oriented Policing. Cureton is a graduate of Xavier University, FBI Academy, the Senior Management Institute of Police and Leadership Cincinnati. He is a board member of the YMCA, Greater Cincinnati Sports Corporation, The John J. Schiff III Foundation, The Contemporary Arts Center and the Flavor of Art Studio. Cureton lives with his wife, Jennifer. The couple has five children and two grandchildren.
The Community Service Award was established in 1992 to honor an individual who has gone beyond the call of duty to provide valuable leadership and outstanding services to our community.
The Ernest Talbert Award

Lisa FitzGibbon is president and chief executive officer for Easter Seals Work Resource Center and its subsidiary, Building Value. This year, she celebrates her 31st anniversary with Easter Seals WRC. She is a member of the Hamilton County Human Services Planning Committee the Xavier University Entrepreneurial Advisory Board and YWCA Academy of Career Women. FitzGibbon has been honored as a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement and was presented with the Tomko Lifetime Achievement Award by the Southwest Ohio Rehabilitation Association. FitzGibbon is a graduate of DePauw University and completed graduate work at Indiana University and DePaul University in Chicago. She lives in Hyde Park with her husband, David, and has three stepchildren and five grandchildren.
The Ernest Talbert Award was established in 1992 to honor an individual who has acted as a benefactor or advocate for Talbert House in promoting its community awareness of community corrections, mental health, substance abuse and welfare-to-work issues in the community. Dr. Ernest Talbert (1879-1971) was Professor Emeritus of Sociology at the University of Cincinnati. He was an early leader in advocating the use of community alternatives to incarceration.

The 2009 Talbert House Annual Luncheon will be held Friday, September 25, 2009, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, 35 West Fifth Street.
