Talbert House hosts press conference to launch national
“Hope, Help & Healing” Intervention Campaign for people with alcohol/drug problems
CINCINNATI, OHIO (January 20, 2005)-Talbert House, in partnership with the Coalition for a Drug-Free Greater Cincinnati (CDFGC), hosted a press conference to launch “Hope, Help & Healing”- a multimedia campaign created by the national Partnership for a Drug-Free America. “Hope, Help & Healing” is a multimedia campaign designed to encourage people to seek help for alcohol and drug problems. The new initiative plans to reach not only people with alcohol and drug problems, but family members as well, through:
More than a dozen research-based messages for television, newspapers, radio and billboards
-A local toll-free hotline, 877-281-7884, to help people find the appropriate help
-A unique, comprehensive web site, www.interveneNOW.org, which is specifically tailored for those dealing with addiction, and for friends and loved ones worried about them
Research conducted in Greater Cincinnati for the new campaign reports that 200,000 people in Greater Cincinnati are concerned about a friend or family member with an alcohol or drug problem (CDFGC). The “Hope, Help and Healing” campaign plans to change attitudes and behaviors about alcohol and drug problems, and express to family members that there are local resources available.
Although unable to attend Tuesday’s press conference, Congressman Rob Portman (R-OH-02), Founding Chair of CDFGC said, “The ‘Help, Hope and Healing’ campaign is a natural extension of the Tri-state’s successful community-wide approach to keeping kids away from drugs and alcohol. The campaign demonstrates that there are real consequences to substance abuse and that getting help can have a positive impact on [one’s] future and that of his or her family.”
Cincinnati and Houston were the first cities selected to test the initiative, so for the next 12 months, each city will “wrap the community” with the treatment and intervention campaign. The national campaign launch will occur in 2006. For more information, visit www.interveneNOW.org, www.drugfreecincinnati.org, and www.drugfree.org.
