Preparing the Next Generation of Behavioral Health Professionals

CINCINNATI – Talbert House is proud to announce the launch of INsight School to Work, a grant-funded initiative under the Behavioral Health Regional Workforce Coalition, designed to help high school students transition into careers in Behavioral Health. Starting with sophomores, this program provides students with a guided pathway toward the workforce or higher education, aiming to expand and strengthen the behavioral health workforce to meet the growing needs of the community.

As mental health service shortages continue to impact an estimated 132 million Americans, the demand for trained paraprofessionals and professionals in the field has never been greater. Recognizing this critical need, Talbert House has launched this initiative to address both short-term and long-term behavioral health workforce development barriers.

INsight currently partners with three schools—Deer Park, Reading, and Winton Woods—and has 54 juniors and seniors on track to complete its pilot year. Students gain hands-on exposure through a variety of experienceships, including informational interviews, job shadowing, facility tours, panel discussions, and professional development. Students also earn two valuable training certifications—Teen Mental Health First Aid and Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist.

Funding for the Insight into behavioral health careers program is provided by Interact for Health, Hamilton County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OHMHAS), the Workforce Council of Southwest Ohio, and the Regional Behavioral Health Workforce Coalition.

Schools and organizations can get involved by becoming partners or connecting students to career opportunities. For more information on how to get involved, please contact Heather Low at Heather.Low@talberthouse.org or visit https://www.buildbehavioralhealth.org/
