CLINTON COUNTY – In honor of Overdose Awareness Day, area nonprofits are hosting events to remember the lives lost to the opioid epidemic and provide education and support in the community on August 31.
From 4 to 7 p.m. visit Your Father’s Kitchen, 180 East Main St, Wilmington, OH 45177, for food and conversation surrounding substance use prevention, recovery, community resources and support. Talbert House Prevention Services will offer training on what to do if someone is experiencing an overdose and demonstrating how to safely administer naloxone (Narcan®). This event is hosted by Sugartree Ministries, Talbert House, The Hopeline and Access Counseling Services.
Hope Warriors will be available at 7 p.m. on the corner of 101 S. Broadway Street and Main Street in Blanchester with staff from The Hopeline and Talbert House Prevention Services who will be distributing naloxone (Narcan®) kits and providing training on how to safely administer the medication. Information on community resources and support will be available.
“By reducing stigma associated with overdose deaths and having conversations, communities can increase their understanding about recovery resources available locally and nationally,” says Megan Pearson, Prevention Education with Talbert House Prevention Services in Clinton and Warren Counties. "As part of Ohio’s Overdose Awareness Day, we are proud to join Governor Mike DeWine and RecoveryOhio in encouraging community members to carry naloxone (Narcan®) to respond in the event of an emergency." Naloxone (Narcan®) is a medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.
