CDCA Phase II

The Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant (CDCA) certification was developed by the Ohio Chemical Dependency board to assist individuals in becoming credentialed to work in the addictions field. Each individual who holds an initial CDCA certification (Phase I) shall complete, during the first 12 months that the initial certificate is in effect, at least 30 additional hours of training in chemical dependency counseling that meets the following requirements:

  • Addiction Knowledge (5 hours)
  • Treatment Knowledge (3 hours)
  • Professionalism (3 hours)
  • Evaluation (3 hours)
  • Service Coordination (3 hours)
  • Documentation (3 hours)
  • Individual Counseling (5 hours)
  • Group Counseling (5 hours)

Individuals with a CDCA certification can work with substance use clients under supervision in a variety of settings including behavioral health agencies, addiction, and treatment centers.
